Music supports student success
All PSD students have the opportunity to engage in music education throughout their academic careers. Music education is offered instrumentally and vocally. In elementary school, students study general music, including singing, playing instruments like xylophones, recorders, and guitars, and learning to read and write music. Elementary schools offer various extra-curricular clubs such as choir and modern band. When registering for middle school, students have the opportunity to choose a band or orchestra instrument, or to register for choir. The PSD Summer Music Beginning program helps students learn new instruments just before middle school, while the Intermediate and Advanced programs serve students who already play their band or orchestra instruments. During the school year, secondary music courses include Band, Choir, Orchestra, Modern Band, Guitar, Piano, Music Production, and Music Theory, along with Musical Theatre, Theatre, and Dance Opportunities. Secondary program offerings vary by site.
