Summer Learning Opportunities for PSD Students

Summer learning at the science museumEven after the school year ends, students have plenty of spaces to come together and learn throughout summer break. Across Northern Colorado, students have numerous opportunities to continue their education in fun and unique ways, from classes to nature experiences and much more. 

These are just some of the opportunities that are available to keep students learning!

City of Fort Collins

The City of Fort Collins offers a variety of classes for local kids to take advantage of over the summer, from swimming to sports to arts and crafts. Classes vary in price, length and schedule throughout the summer.

Larimer County

Larimer County has several opportunities for students to enjoy the outdoors and learn about the world around them throughout the summer. This includes programs like the Tiny Trekkers series as well as C.A.S.T for kids, both of which are meant to get kids outside and learning about nature.

The county also holds numerous events for all ages throughout the summer that encourage people to get out and learn more about nature, including several family-friendly activities to teach about the world. Kids can even join the Junior Rangers program, with a guide found online or in one of the County’s Natural Resources Department offices.

Poudre Libraries

Community members can pick any day of the week and find something for kids to enjoy at Poudre Libraries. Daily events range from storytimes to writing workshops to yoga and much, much more. 

Kids can even enjoy the Summer Adventure Scavenger Hunt throughout June.

Colorado State University

Colorado State University offers numerous summer programs for students, from youth sports camps to academic programs. These range from music and movement classes to young writers’ workshops. High school students can even take part in credit-bearing program options.

Local State and National Parks

While local kids and their families can spend plenty of time enjoying nature in local state and national parks this summer, they can also find ways to learn along the way in a series of formats. 

This includes programs through Lory State Park that teach kids about pollination, weather, and more. 

Kids can also join the Junior Ranger Program at Lory State Park and enjoy learning more about the world around them!

PSD Summer School

Students who need to make up for missed credits can do so through PSD Summer School sessions. 

While these cost $100 per course, financial assistance is available for qualifying families.  Registration for the first session opens May 1 and for the second session June 20.
