Poudre School District students and other children in Northern Colorado will be able to find a great free meal over the summer with the return of a statewide program.
The Colorado Department of Education will operate 635 summer meal sites statewide to provide free meals to all children 18 and younger; this includes four PSD schools alongside several Food Bank for Larimer County locations.
The Summer Meals Program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Colorado Department of Education’s School Nutrition Unit in partnership with community-based program sponsors. Program sponsors provided more than 1.9 million meals to youth across Colorado last year.
“Many Colorado children rely on their schools for access to food, and our Summer Meals Program provides a critical resource for children and families during the summer months,” said Colorado Education Commissioner Susana Córdova. “We are grateful to our 83 community partners for stepping up to serve them.
Meals will be provided for free to anyone 18 and younger; no registration, identification, or proof of income or enrollment is required to access summer meals. Sites will offer on-site or to-go meal service.
