Heat-related Early Release for Most PSD Schools Monday, Aug. 18 through Friday, Aug. 22

Dear PSD Community,

Due to forecasted high temperatures in the area, most Poudre School District schools will be dismissing students two hours early from Monday, Aug. 18 through Friday, Aug. 22.

We will re-evaluate the forecast on Wednesday, Aug. 20 to see if there are any potential changes in the forecast. If forecasted temperatures decline below 90 degrees, all schools will operate on a normal schedule. The district will communicate as soon as possible on Wednesday if the forecast is changing for the remainder of the week.

Schools that will release early from Monday, Aug. 18 through Friday, Aug. 22 include:

  • All elementary schools except the Mountain schools
  • All middle schools
  • Centennial High School
  • Polaris Expeditionary Learning School
  • Poudre Community Academy

Students attending the above schools who ride the bus home will still do so, and will be dropped off at their regular stops two hours earlier than normal.

AlphaBEST after-school care will be provided only at Bacon, Eyestone, and McGraw Elementary Schools, but space will be limited; families are encouraged to follow AlphaBEST procedure for registering children to use these services during early releases or closures. Please note that families will be responsible for transporting their students to these AlphaBEST sites. Contact AlphaBEST directly for more information.

Afternoon field trips and afternoon Early Childhood sessions are canceled on each of these days.

Middle School athletics and activities that typically take place after school may be moved to the morning, prior to the start of the school day, or they may be moved after 6:30pm. Athletics and activities that occur before the school day or after 6:30pm are optional for students and families will be responsible for transporting their students to and from these activities on these days. Coaches will share information with students and families directly regarding possible modification to athletics and activities schedules.

The only schools that will continue normal operations are:

  • Fort Collins High School
  • Fossil Ridge High School
  • Poudre High School
  • Rocky Mountain High School
  • Timnath Middle High School
  • Wellington Middle High School
  • PSD Global Academy
  • PSD transition programs
  • All Mountain schools

All afternoon activities and athletics will continue as planned at the schools continuing normal operations with the exception of after school athletics and activities for middle school students only at Timnath Middle High School and Wellington Middle High School. Charter schools will decide independently whether to release students early. Concurrent enrollment classes will also continue as scheduled.

PSD determines heat-related early release or closures based on a series of factors, which you can learn more about by following this link

Thank you for your patience with the change in schedule. This decision was made with the health and safety of all our students and staff in mind, and we appreciate your understanding.
