Student and School Successes: PHS Finishes 9th in Ocean Bowl; Preston Finalist for Intel Distinction Award

PHS Finishes in 9th Place at National Ocean Bowl.

Congratulations to Poudre High School’s Ocean Bowl state championship team, which recently earned 9th place in the National Ocean Bowl at Galveston, Texas.

The state champion Ocean Bowl team includes PHS’ national qualifiers are Qi Chen, Ian Koss, Diana Pham, Rachel Siller and Tyler Rudolph. Questions covered a variety of topics including oceanography, currents, tides, commercial ocean uses, animal life, plant life and more.

“Congrats to all these dedicated students who have been learning oceanography and marine biology after school for fun,” explained Jack Lundt, team coach and retired PSD science teacher. “The future of our oceans determines our own future on this planet--studying the ocean is important to all of us.”

Preston One of 18 Finalists for Intel Schools of Distinction Awards

Congratulations to Preston Middle School, which was recently named one of 18 national finalists for the Intel® Schools of Distinction Awards in the science and math excellence category. The award is given to schools in recognition of innovative science and math programs.

The award recognizes Preston’s consistent efforts to encourage students’ interest in science, technology, math and engineering, or STEM. As an Intel finalist, Preston will receive a grant of $5,000 from the Intel Foundation and an opportunity for teachers and staff to share best practices in Washington, D.C. in September.
