Putnam and Irish elementary schools were in lockout Thursday morning from approximately 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. due to a reported sighting of a mountain lion in the area.
At approximately 10 a.m., PSD security staff were notified by the Fort Collins Police Department and Department of Wildlife that the area had been searched and no more sightings had occurred. At this time, the lockout was lifted. Authorities are no longer investigating in the area.
Students and staff remained indoors until the lockout was lifted. A school is placed on "lockout" when there's a potential threat outside the school, and students and staff stay inside the building. Exterior doors are locked. Normal schedules, activities, and instruction are followed in the school.
