Strategic Direction

With the world-class education of 25,000 students as our charge, we must be clear about our course for improvement.   PSD is  a large vessel – using nautical terms - and all movement with regard to change and direction must be thoughtful and well planned.

With this mind, in Fall 2011, district leadership, with input from the Board of Education, drafted a Strategic Direction for PSD that was designed to lay a roadmap for where the district is, what we want to do, where we want to go and how we plan to get there. This roadmap connects the dots of many of our ongoing projects including the five learning goals, Educator Effectiveness, operational sustainability and how they all dovetail into District Ends 1.0, the Board Policy regarding approved district outcomes.

The Strategic Direction, which was finalized in June 2012, outlines objectives, action steps and performance measures for seven goals: 3rd grade reading proficiency, annual growth, post-secondary readiness, successful transitions, health and wellness, educator effectiveness and operational sustainability. In doing so, it describes how the district intends to achieve the learning targets set forth for each area.

PSD’s Strategic Direction is a working document.  As evidence of how it is developing, Board members initially approved new challenging targets for the four learning goals and later added a goal for wellness.  The wellness area builds upon five years of successful work with students and staff regarding healthy schools.

The Strategic Direction and a preface are posted on the PSD website (see links below) and will be shared with our stakeholders in the 2012-2013 school year.

Our goal for the Strategic Direction is to represent the vibrant nature of school change and set the course for PSD improvement. Through implementation of the clear pathways outlined in this document, PSD leadership can direct our district towards attaining the challenging benchmarks we have set for our students and staff.

We encourage the entire PSD community to jump on board with us as we navigate these new challenging waters. Together, we can make this journey a success for not only our district, but our community as well.
