Troy Krotz will add 30 years of educational experience to the team at Wellington Middle-High School, as he steps into the role of principal for the 2023-24 school year.
Over the past 14 years, Krotz has served as the principal of Poudre School District’s Poudre Community Academy (PCA), the Journey Program for Expelled Students, and the assistant director of Student Outreach. His philosophy is to provide every student with a quality education in a safe and supportive environment. This happens, he said, by working with a strong staff dedicated to high expectations, clear goals, and a shared belief that all students can be successful.
When Krotz started as principal at PCA in 2009, there were 30 students. Today, the alternative 8-12 school has 275. In that time, Krotz and the team grew the number of adults educating students; added an eighth-grade program; started a Colorado High School Activities Association athletics program; and supported more than 500 students at risk of not graduating to successfully earn their high school diplomas.
As part of his additional roles, Krotz supported students as they transitioned back to their schools after expulsion; worked with PSD staff and community partners to address truancy among students; supported students who are in the foster care system; and coordinated enrollment of international exchange students in PSD.
Throughout his career, he has worked as a mathematics teacher, band director, coach, and assistant principal for curriculum. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Florida and University of South Florida, respectively.
“I am honored and excited to be joining the Wellington community. I look forward to working together to create a special educational experience for all students and staff,” Krotz said.
Outside of work, Krotz enjoys traveling with family and friends, spending time with his 3-year-old grandson, golfing, and fanatically following his Florida Gators.
