Dr. Nancy Wright Named PSD Interim Superintendent

The Poudre School District Board of Education named Dr. Nancy Wright as its interim Superintendent Wednesday, June 27. Dr. Wright, who served as PSD's Interim Superintendent in 2004, replaces Dr. Jerry Wilson, who resigned in June to accept a superintendent position in Maryland.

Several Board members noted that Dr. Wright's experience as a Superintendent as well as her knowledge of policy governance and instructional leadership were characteristics they felt would help PSD successfully navigate this transition year.

"We needed to find who best fit the criteria we were looking for. With Nancy Wright, the experience she brings as a former Superintendent and the passion that is transmitted and her ability to communicate the passion that she has for education and connecting with people in the district were all factors," said Vice Chair James Ross. "She is the kind of person who is a collaborator. That was really something that struck me about her:  she can bring the expertise, the passion and that human touch and help with the transition to find the best person for the long term position. She was the best that we could get in one person."

Dr. Wright was one of three finalists for the Interim Superintendent position. On June 13, the Board also named Jim Sarchet and Dr. Judy Skupa as finalists. The Board had noted they were looking for the following characteristics in an Interim Superintendent:

  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Open management style
  • Ability to build relationships and trust
  • Record of closing achievement gaps
  • Knowledge of Colorado law
  • Knowledge of PSD
  • Understanding of Policy Governance
  • Proven instructional leader

Dr. Wright will now begin negotiations with the board regarding a contract.
