It is with great pride that I begin my second journey in PSD. I am very honored to represent a district that has such heart.
When I returned to PSD to assume the Interim Superintendency last month, I was gratified to see that the mission statement remained the same: Educate Every Child, Every Day.
My belief that PSD was a school district strong in its commitment to students and their success has been reinforced in every day. In my two weeks here I have met so many staff members who are dedicated to making sure that we serve all students well. And the students I meet at retail shops and restaurants around town demonstrate that his belief is well deserved. These students are bright, articulate and well-rounded citizens who act as tremendous ambassadors for the quality of a PSD education.
I was also happy to see that the community continues to support our students and staff. The recent passage of the Mill Levy and Bond that have afforded students and staff tremendous opportunities with technology, training, innovation and extensive building renovations showcases the community’s commitment to PSD’s mission of providing a high quality education to all children. This support is integral to our continued success and I am grateful to be a part of such a generous and giving community.
But most of all, I am proud of the way the community and staff have rallied around our families in need this summer. June and July were difficult months for PSD: we lost four students in tragic accidents and several staff and students lost their homes to the wild fires.
Through tragedy comes reflection and reminders of the generous people in our community. Many individuals and organizations rallied and supported members of the PSD family after learning of the loss of our students.
Likewise, people risked losing their own homes in order to help save historic Stove Prairie Elementary School and the homes of many who were in the path of the fires.
The perseverance, compassion, and strength that we pride ourselves on as a district and community were displayed time and again in the face of adversity.
The PSD family may have been challenged this summer, but our steadfast spirit remains strong. I am proud to be a part of this district and community and know that while we still have challenges ahead, our future is bright indeed. We are PSD and we are strong.
Sincerely,
Nancy Wright, Ed.D
Superintendent
