"In the fall of 2011, PSD was invited as one of 80 participants to the Better Buildings Challenge, a public/private leadership initiative designed to reduce energy consumption by 20%. The invitation for the event, which included a roundtable discussion at the White House, came to PSD due to the 11-year commitment the district has made to planning, designing, building, educating, and utilizing sustainable principles. The results have been extraordinary: PSD has more buildings with energy awards than all other Colorado school districts combined, had the first Gold LEED certified school in the nation, and has realized over $2 million in energy savings in 17 years."

Building off the success of applying sustainability in constructing new schools, remodels, and school improvement projects, the district reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by adopting a Sustainability Management System (SMS) that extends the principles of sustainability to all of its operations. The Annual Sustainability Report shares the district's accomplishments in sustainability management practices since implementing the SMS in 2006.
